Dixie Dixon is a Texas born and bred commercial fashion photographer. Just a few years out of college, this 20-something’s career is unfolding one adventure after another.

She was given her first Nikon Camera, the Nikon FG, at just 12 years old, which peaked her curiosity in the field and served as her sidekick in exploring the world. She would continually clock seven to ten hours in the darkroom without even realizing it. While in college she studied in London with a world-renowned fashion photographer and became deeply inspired by the beautiful illusion of fashion and commercial photography.

It has been said that her idealistic vision of the world is reflected into every single frame- full of life, beautiful energy, and most of all, Soul. Her passion has lead her to shoot internationally in places such as Cannes, Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Ibiza, and Barcelona recently for various brands, tv shows, commercial campaigns and editorial projects. She is one of the sixteen original Nikon Ambassadors of the United States.

Sensuous and polished, her images create a dream world in which romance is always alive. Her fresh vision has attracted clients such as Nikon, Disney, Virgin, Advanced Beauty, Florsheim Shoes, Ultherapy, Woodland Worldwide, Inside Edition, Gaylord Hotels, Spencer Fine Jewelry, G-Technology, Profoto, Eprouvage, MAC Group, Magpul, Billy Jealousy, Nha Khanh, Pipers Perfumery, and Macadamia Professional to name a few. Her work has been published in publications such as Rangefinder, PDN, Professional Photographers Magazine, Dapper Magazine, Living Magazine, Beverly Drive Magazine, Nikon World and many more.

For how long have been in photography? How did you start? My entire life :)- started out looking through magazines and shooting friends, family and literally anyone that would sit in front of my lens. It is a love affair and my obsession. I love working with a dream team of creatives to achieve a common vision… it makes my heart happy!

How would you define yourself as an artist?
I would say I’m a dreamer with a wildly ideal imagination- I love bringing to life a moment that is almost believable yet has some fantasy intertwined in there- a sensual uplifting beauty

Where do you find inspiration? Everywhere + Travel as much as possible- new places and people inspire me greatly – I have a wanderlust addiction

Is Brainstorming not the only creative method use to create new concepts? I think brainstorming is a great creative method- I also use meditation as well so I sit for 20 minutes a day silencing my mind- this helps me break the cycle of noise and allows ideas to flow.

Please could you tell us about photography and digital technology? I began my adventure in photography shooting film and I still love it but mainly I am working with Nikon digital cameras on commercial jobs- clients love the high resolution files. I enjoy creating my imagery in camera as opposed to doing a ton of photoshop work but I do utilize basic skin retouching.
What type of camera do you use most? The NIKON D5- obsessed with that beast

What is your favorite lens? Nikkor 200mm F2- it is Bokehlicious 😉

What has been your most memorable assignment and why? Now that is a hard one… hmmm I think each new assignment is my most memorable… I treat each one like it is the most important assignment of my career

What are your favourite three images you have shot recently? I was shooting fashion and swimwear in Brazil recently and I’d have to say some of the images from that are my new favorites.. I love the brazilian culture and energy! Many of the models there didn’t speak english so it was a challenge but definitely a fun adventure

How important is an awesome website for your business? Extremely important- it showcases your vision and attracts your dream clients- Only show the type of work you want to shoot on your website.

What’s the most important quality a photographer needs to have? Passion + Extreme Determination + Desire to keep learning

Which of your projects has given you the most satisfaction?
ALL OF THEM! But Most recently the Nikon D5 Campaign- I love shooting advertising and bringing a clients vision to life and this particular shoot was such an honor

List of your clients? Nikon, Disney, Macadamia Oil, Virgin, Florsheim Shoes, Advanced Beauty, James Avery Jewelry, Profoto, Professional Photographers Magazine, AXS Television, Ultherapy, Magpul, Nha Khanh, and so many more

Who are the photographer’s you admire the most? Peter Lindbergh, Rodney Smith, Annie Leibowitz and so many more
What about architects and designers? I love modern architecture and rugged industrial designs in general- not sure I could name them though

What are your next projects? I have some advertising and editorial gigs coming up and excited to start working on a book 🙂
