For how long have been in photography? How did you start?
I bought my first camera approximately 5 years ago. I wanted to document our trips and I found myself enjoying it more and more. I found passion for photography. I am active as a professional since 2014.
How would you define yourself as an artist?
I like “new”. I enjoy doing new and crazy things. I find myself gravitating towards surrealism. I try to explore and come up with something new and original.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find the inspiration everywhere around me. I try to look at things in different way and I explore a lot. Sometimes I find the inspiration in myself – in my feelings andproblems. Sometimes I need to show something to the world, and I use photography as a tool to express myself, so people can see and think about what I want to show.
Is Brainstorming not the only creative method use to create new concepts?
If I want to express something – my mood, or I want people to see something, I usually have the concept and idea in my head and I know exactly what I want the picture to look like. I sketch all my photographs on paper and then I only work on details. However, I do brainstorm a lot when I see something or someone with high potential and I want to use it in my picture. Then I practice brainstorming as I need to find ways how connect all the objects on my photograph.
Please could you tell us about photography and digital technology?
My first camera was digital ultra zoom and since then I only used digital. Lately, I was inspired by “classic” photography using photo film. I had the opportunity to try middle format film camera and I really liked the outcome. Recently, I bought my first film camera – Mamiya rz67 pro II and I use it for my photographs now. In my newest project I use this camera.
What type of camera do you use most?
Most – definitely digital Canon 6D.
What is your favorite lens?
Sigma F/1.4 50mm
What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
It was for a Slovak wedding magazine. It was a challenging project. We were shooting for 4 days, starting early in the morning and finishing late evening. We had to face different lighting and weather conditions as we were shooting in an abounded swimming pool in winter. Also there were many people involved in the shooting, so we had to coordinate a lot.
What are your favourite three images you have shot recently?
At the moment I enjoy shooting with my new Mamiya. Now the films are in the process of developing, so I am really looking forward to see how they came out.
How important is an awesome website for your business?
I think it is very important. It is the way how you present yourself to the world. It is an important image that you give about yourself – how you work and what is important for you. My goal is to have a simple website where people can find all they need or want to see.
What’s the most important quality a photographer needs to have?
In my opinion it is the focus on detail and your own uniqueness. If the people can recognize your work without seeing the authors name, that is important for me.
Which of your projects has given you the most satisfaction?
Still actual – Poems project. Now it is in process of finalization and I am preparing all necessary aspects for the exhibition in November. It took two years to finalize the project and I am very happy about it. It is very special to me as I am cooperation with Slovak poets who create unique poems for chosen photographs. The plan is to publish the project in a book form as well.
Who are the photographer’s you admire the most?
I admire Martina Stranka and Anka Zhuravleva
What are your next projects?
My next project will be dedicated to interesting types of people and will be shot in a studio. The most important will be the connection between model, colour and objects on the photograph. It will be full of details. This project will be shot by analog camera.
