Steve Leung inaugurated as the first Chinese President of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI)

Mr. Steve Leung, Founder of the internationally-renowned and award-winning interior design company Steve Leung Designers Ltd. (SLD), was inaugurated as the President 2017-2019 of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) at the 28th IFI General Assembly held in Nigeria, Africa on November 12. Steve is the first Chinese to be elected to this position, turning a new page for the world’s interior design industry.

Industry association representatives from around 20 different cities and countries attended the IFI General Assembly. The meeting discussed the projects and budget of IFI over the past board term, planned upcoming programs and developments, and concluded on the theme for IFI World Interior Days. IFI committee elections was completed while the new Executive Board was announced. Mr. Steve Leung the globally acclaimed interior designer was elected as the President, the first Chinese entrusted with this position. At his inauguration speech, Steve said: “As IFI belongs to no single person, no single country and no single region, I can promise you, as the new President of IFI, that I will do my very best with my fellow board members, to make IFI a truly global representation for all of us.”

Steve has devoted himself to developing a more united, more transparent and more sustainable IFI since he became the President-elect 2015-2017. Upon the commencement as the President, Steve will exercise his 30 years of practice experience to gather associations and charitable organizations of the design industry, and to connect global professional representatives to explore the development and opportunities of the international design industry. Steve believes design has the power to improve lives and drive social development. Steve and the new Board will strive to enhance the engagement of the design industry globally, while encouraging the participation of government institutions, educational organisations, related enterprises and more interior design associations. In doing so IFI can expand and diversify its membership base, therefore fostering a more comprehensive and representative international platform for exchange and enhancing the global status of the interior design industry.

Recognized internationally, Steve Leung is a leading architect, interior and product designer born in Hong Kong in 1957. Steve‘s works reflect the projects’ unique characters with his contemporary touch, taking inspirations from the Asian culture and arts.

In 2015, Steve has been honoured as the winner of the Andrew Martin International Interior Designer of the Year Award and won the Andrew Martin International Interior Design Awards for 14 times since 2000. Steve set up his own architectural and urban planning consultancy in 1987 and restructured the company into Steve Leung Architects Ltd. (SLA) and Steve Leung Designers Ltd. (SLD) in 1997. Headquartered in Hong Kong and has five branch offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenzhen, SLD has more than 500 high-calibre staff to work on projects all over the world. The Company is ranked Top 1 position in the “Residential Category” and Top 30 in “Top 100 Giants Research” by Interior Design Magazine in 2016 and 2017. The presidential transition from Mr. Sebastiano Raneri (Right) to Mr. Steve Leung was carried out in the 28th IFI General Assembly. Steve, the President 2017-2019 of IFI, is the first Chinese elected to this position.
