Vanessa Lemen credits a few distinct turning points in her life that have led her to where she is currently, and these moments were on the heels of loss and uncertainty. If you have seen her paint, this may come as no surprise. Not only is she able to roll with the unexpected, it appears to be the very nature of her process. Each piece she creates seems to come from what one may describe as chaos, and in it, she is able to create a place of reflection and curiosity, a balance of the deep-seated and the unknown. As is in life, in each painting, there are places of rest and places of movement. An eventual intermingling of the two becomes a calm amid the chaos.

Vanessa is a painter and instructor based in the San Diego, CA area.
