For how long have been in photography?
WQS:16 years

How did you start?
WQS: In 1996, I found out in one corner of a big shopping mall in Wangfujing district, which is the central commercial district in Beijing, a lot of people were intrigued by changing their heads onto famous movie stars or singers’ heads and bodies. So I did the first set of photos changing my heads onto beautiful girls’ bodies, to ridicule the vulgar tastes.

How would you define yourself as an artist?
I am an artist who uses all his senses to observe and document what is happening around us.

Where do you find inspiration?
WQS: My inspiration comes from social realities, any stories on the news, any comments by general populace….

Is Brainstorming  not the only creative method  use to create new concepts?
WQS: Yes, there are more keys to open the stories with, not only brainstorming.

Please could you tell us about photography and digital technology?
WQS: Photography develops over the last century. But digital technology only developed during the last decade in extremely fast speed. Good photography sometimes needs digital technology to make up for what is not possible in shooting in real scenes. but it cannot replace the creation of photography.

What type of camera do you use most?
WQS: I used to use a lot 8 by 10, now 12×20 inches.

What is your favorite lens?
WQS: Any lens will do as long as it is of use for me.

What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
WQS: I seldom take assignment. I do my own art works.

What are your favourite three images you have shot recently?
WQS: The History of Monuments (2010), Goddess (2011) and Temple (2011).

How important is an awesome website for your business?
WQS: It helps readers and researchers to know more about my art works.

What’s the most important quality a photographer needs to have?
WQS: Sincerity and lack of urgency.

Did you work for international brands? Which ones?
WQS: I used to work with a photo shoot with Dior in 2008.

Which of your projects has given you the most satisfaction?
WQS: So far, there are not 100% satisfaction.  am a professional artist. My collectors are either private or public institutions.
Since I work for myself, they are all of best experiences for me.

Who are the photographer’s you admire the most?
WQS: I admire good artists, like Thomas Demand.

What about architects and designers?
WQS: Designers are good like the ones for Lanvin, Jean-Paul Gautier, and Galliano..

What are your next projects?
WQS: I am working currently on one film shoot which will be finished in two years. about an hour and half long. Not disclose this info to the general public now.
