For how long have been in art? - When I was 6 years old, now I am 34.

How did you start?- My parents are all artists teaching in fine art University. I grew up in great art-atmosphere, I see art is in my soul, easily and naturally started.

How would you define yourself as an artist?- I see an artist has different eyes on life and what you think on aspect. tells us the same. Also, I see now I am just a painter on oils. Using oils and canvas to present life’s aspects in my thought for metaphor something, that is my definition myself as an oil painter. In my dream on childhood, I wanna be a great artist, while durning the time that I learned, I figure out I wanna be a great painter before I am 50. For the future, I wanna do some not limited on canvas art including film. Painting is like my meals in life, art is my soul coming out from life.

Would you tell us some things about yourself? Please include a few little known facts about you as well. - I wanna tell a true story about myself. When I graduated from my MFA, I have to make a choice, to find a job or continue to paint. This is a big reality problem for artists, Because for artists, keeping doing art and paintings are very hard to find jobs for making living. Life is cruel, dream to be reality is hard and needs time! I did a hard decision on that. I followed my heart keeping creating paintings, never stop, no turning back. The fact proves I am correct.

Where do you find inspiration?-Books and movies, and important, my life gives me too much.

What are you trying to communicate with your art?--of course, I often review my old works and think about.

What art do you most identify with?-Oil Painting

Why do you do … what you do?--The reason is I LOVE PAINTING! I paint everyday and each day I work over 8 hours! I do a lot of oil paintings, I see I am a painter on oils. Using oils and canvas to present life’s aspects in my thought for metaphor something, that is my definition myself as an oil painter. Painting is like my meals in life, art is my soul coming out from life. Due to my good works on art, I was invited to be an offical governmental signatured artist in national fine art academy of Wuhan, China.

What does “being creative” mean to you?-Being creative means unique works to me. Creative paintings, creative ideas, creative thoughts in art works, that are the soul elements of an artist!

Any shows, galleries, or publications where our readers can find your work? -Many shows, galleries, or publications where our readers can find my works. For example, MEAM in Barcelona, Galeria artelibre in Zaragoza, Salmagundi Club in NYC, Gallery 1618 in Paris, and World Art Center in Beijing all could find my oil paintings. Also Circle Foundation-Spotlight Magazine, Leonardo Guide, American Art Magazine, International Artists Magazine and Chinese Art Magazines all could see my published works. Also my 2018 will have 3 solo exhibitions on my new series of works to see around. April to May will be held in Tokyo Gallery, the whole Sep. will be held in Paris at Gallery 1618 and at 15th-30th Oct. will be held in HongKong Gallery. Welcome to see my international solo exhibitions. The direct way is following my website: dikexin.artron.net and Facebook on : Kexin Di.

How do you cultivate a collector base?-In U.S. and China, many collectors love my works, buy my works and they would follow my paintings process. After they bought one or two pieces, they will keep following me and like fans often take times on my works especially for the new series processing. They love to see the difference I made. I think continue following my heart on creating unique works is crucial. Great works can cultivate a good collector.

Which is your most cherished piece?, which is my first oil painting creation in freshman.

If you had an exclusive collective exhibition with other artists work, who would you choose?-Odd Nerdrum.

What do you see as the strengths of your pieces, visually or conceptually?-Classic, visually more and a little conceptual.

What aspect of your work do you pay particular attention to?— First: Thoughts, Second: Visually strengths, Third: Skills on oil painting.

What role does the artist have in society?--In society, the artists play an important role of teaching people know what is “beauty” and creating different way of seeing. Also communicating with art and reality, letting more people know how is beauty and how to make beauty in life, that are the artists give the society more help.

What is your most treasured memory?-My life with my wife is my treasure one, she is also an artist who gives me a lot of sparkle ideas. My treasured memory is with my wife traveling in U.K. and U.S.A.

What for you is the most enjoyable part of your art?— Creating and changing, the first step of making art is my most enjoyable part!

What famous artists have influenced you, and how? -Titian, Rembrandt, Odd Nerdrum, Eugene Delacroix. I love these famous artists for over 10 years! Titian, Rembrandt, Odd Nerdrum, they are the same venation from past to modern. I love the oils they present and also amazing skills, all that influenced me. Also, Eugene Delacroix’s romanticism expression is my key love and affect my soul.

What other interests do you have outside of art?-I am a collector on sculpture and movie props. Science Fiction Movie fans and traveler.

Some short questions now:

more Colours: Blue, yellow, black, vermillion

Textures: soft, oil textured.

Define your art: My paintings come out of familiar life: a wrecked fishing boat, a garment that has long been eroded by water and sweat, even a small string of key buckles. These details are full of inspiration and are indispensable elements for my paintings.

Perhaps because I am a Northern boy and less Southern romantic in my blood, my art is more bold and straightforward. The North cold wind makes for boundless, majestic and heavy breathing. These all influence my painting and my thoughts. That is why my works tell their story. In my paintings, people are solemn, respectful, and appear like heroes.

In my oil painting technique, I am inspired by Rembrandt’s works to catch the color of light. With the classical skill of cover to dye, painting can be powerful by layering oil colors decorously. Meanwhile, I often use color directly, like modern painters, combining them together. Also, I love the Renaissance masters, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Titian. They are my “soul” teachers, because, like them, I want to present figures’ souls and inner thoughts through their eyes to others, telling a story in the painting, presenting a world outlook at the same time as reflecting my feelings and state of mind in the painting. Painting can depict the essence of life: hope, happiness, and aspiration. It can also show cruelty, impotence, pain, hopelessness and the confusion of social life. Painting can reflect these feelings and give people love and the sense of beauty. It is my most instinctive reaction as a painter to show these feelings throughout my paintings.

Share something you would like the world to know about you?- About my works (my works can show more about me)
In 2017, I accomplished two important life goals. The first was earning a BFA and MFA at the China Academy of Art after ten years of study. Secondly, and of great personal significance, I studied and followed the Master Odd Nerdrum in Florence, Italy. This portfolio contains some of my most important works of this time period between 2007 and 2017. My 30s have now begun. New artistic endeavors will continue to come out before I plan to rethink my figurative painting series.

I grew up in an unquiet family. My parents are both oil painters at art universities. They have quite different objectives and opinions on oil painting. As a teenager, I began to ponder what kind of painting had the power to forever move people. Which was my favorite?

I admire paintings where real life is translated into paint. This is why the old masterpieces are so powerful and eternal.

My own art works are divided into 3 series. One series portrays realistic works where I reflect on real life scenes, such as fishermen. Why is painting them my favorite? Why do my eyes watch them for so long? Because I grew up in a fishing town. My homeland is bordered by the sea. Seafood feed my town, and the fishermen are our heroes. In my art, I present them as lively and real. They struggle against the wind and against destiny to live their own way.

Another series is represented by paintings from my own personal life. I paint my beautiful wife who knows me so well and is an artist too. Life needs to be carefully seen - see what it has, appreciate its beauty and keep those special moments that I want to preserve.

The last series, which is also the most important series I paint, is called Politeia. In my work, I paint an eternal Utopia or paradise. Here love, balance, faith, chaos, death, limbo and the void can share the same space. I describe my logical world of Politeia as expressing people with cold, peaceful, solemn faces, faithful eyes and even breath, free from harm or pain…with a feeling stretching back to the ages, an immemorial moment. I am currently working on 10 or more pieces of this paradisal subject matter.

Since we have entered the era of photography, this new visual communication had become dominant in all human interactions. In this age what is the meaning of painting? Are paintings dead compared to photographs? There is confusion among painters on this point. The golden age for painting is past, so what could be next? This question is unavoidable for artists today. Fortunately, there is still a small, but special group that insist on painting, especially on figurative painting. They strive to preserve the truth of eternity, and try to break new ground while following the classical and realistic tradition. Luckily, I am one of them.

My paintings come out of familiar life: a wrecked fishing boat, a garment that has long been eroded by water and sweat, even a small string of key buckles. These details are full of inspiration and are indispensable elements for my paintings.

Perhaps because I am a Northern boy and less Southern romantic in my blood, my art is more bold and straightforward. The North cold wind makes for boundless, majestic and heavy breathing.
